Yaakov Zilberstein


Yaakov Zilberstein has been a member of the foundation since 1993.

He was incarcerated in the Buchenwald Concentration Camp from 1939-1942. From there he was transported to Auschwitz, where he remained from 1942-1945. Later he was returned to Buchenwald, where he remained from January to April, 1945.

Mr. Zilberstein is a recipient of the “Citizen Award of Rishon Lezion”. He is a member of the Yad Vashem Council and the Rishon Lezion History Museum, and served as chairman of the Prisoners of Nazis Association and of the governing council of the Center of Survivor Organizations in Israel. Member of the International Auschwitz Committee, member of the Governing Council of Hapoel Hamizrachi and of the Settlement Movement Center.

Mr. Zilberstein was employed in the past by the Jewish Agency, Keren Hayesod, and Histadrut Hapoel Hamizrachi.

He studied at Yeshivat Hachmei Lublin in Poland. He is a widower and has two children.

Mr. Zilberstein’s motto is “Remember and never forget”, and one of his central goals is to help others.
